About Katelyn Glen

Hi! My name is Katelyn Glen and I am a first-year student at North Carolina State University majoring in Elementary Education with a concentration in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). I am originally from Wilkesboro, North Carolina where I attended Wilkes Central High School and worked at Chick-Fil-A. I had the privilege of playing volleyball and softball for both JV and varsity for my alma mater, as well as fulfilled the role as woodwind section leader while playing flute for the Marching Eagles. I was an active member of the National Honors Society, Key Club, Unified Champion Schools, Beta Club, Interact Club, and a number of other organizations that allowed me to serve my community in a variety of ways, from visiting nursing homes to hosting the county-wide Special Olympics event.

I am the oldest child of four and I have been raised for most of my life by my amazing single-mother, Jessica. Being the first child in my family to head off to college, I was completely lost when applying to college, FAFSA, scholarship, etc. However, I lucked out when I applied

to NC State and received my acceptance letter and then later received the Park Scholarship. The Park Scholarship is a full academic ride based on the pillars of leadership, scholarship, service, and character, and is the reason why I am fortunate enough to be attending a four-year university.

I began my college journey majoring in Biomedical Engineering with the intention of going to medical school and becoming a pediatrician. I have always had a love for working with children, and after a hard and stressful first semester, I found my calling to become an educator of tiny humans. Though I am still new to the program, I have made a number of friendships with other people in my major and I have been selected to be a College of Education Student Ambassador for the upcoming school year.

My experience at college has been both the best and worst experience of my life. During my first semester at college, while still adjusting to being away from my family and friends back home, making new friends, and juggling school work, I received news that my family’s home

burned down. While I never imagined that would happen to me, I can not say enough good words about my support system both here at NC State or back in my hometown. Graciously enough, a flood of text messages and phone calls poured into my phone during my time of need and I was offered the comfort and stability I needed to persevere through the rest of the semester.

With all of that being said, I am currently in my first class for educators and as part of the course, I have been given the opportunity to create a blog and reflect on my experiences based on what I am exposed to during class time. Please feel free to navigate through my page and read what all I have to say about instructing with technology!
